12 May 2022

We will do the river walk this year pre the start of the new river season. Saturday 11th June, meet middle car park at 9am.

14  May 2020

Fishers Green Lakes are now open.

    Doug Howell

Chairman & Secretary – Fishers Green Consortium

25  February 2020

There will be significant disruption along lengths of the river over the next few weeks with the river restoration work and also the building of the New Bitten hide will be undertaken. This is obviously going to raise some comments from a few anglers but hopefully they can see that some short term disruption for the rest of this season will be for the long term benefit to the river.

The River Restoration will include a bank reinforcement on the first bend up from the bailey bridge and flow diverters along the straight between the top car park and pylon bend plus tree and flow diverters at the very top of our section. Some temporary path closures will be needed. This work will only be carried out during the working week so weekends all will be fishable. This part of the works will be for approx. 6 to 8 weeks and starts from 23rd March 2020 There will be contractors equipment taking up some parking places in both the middle and top car parks.

This work is the culmination of three years of meetings between the Consortium, The LVRPA, the Environment Agency and the contractors, Aquamaintain.

We do appreciate that the final weeks of the River season are not the ideal time for us but we have to take into consideration the Bird Nesting Season and the availability of the Contractor. It’s short term pain for long term gain. Please bear with us over this period.

The new Bitten hide will be take approx 16 weeks for the demolition and construction of the new one. This will result in longer term path closures particularly the foot path from the bitten hide upstream to the path fork from the river around 70 acre which will be an access route for construction traffic. Their equipment will take up some of the public car park by the toilets. Construction traffic will enter by our Gate, cross the River by the Bailey Bridge before going down steam to the construction site. Much of the work will be after the river season has closed but access to this area of Seventy Acres will be denied while work is in Progress.

We have tried to lessen the impact of the work on anglers but are continually referred back to Health and Safety Considerations. Be assured that we will monitor all work that affects the Fishery.

Regards

Doug Howell

Just a reminder to Predator anglers as per the rules, at all times please carry long nosed wire cutter, long forceps, minimum 40” landing net and an adequate unhooking mat.

All lure anglers whether you are fishing for pike , perch etc a wire trace must be used at all times, no exceptions.

Please note: Anglers must be off the river at 8pm from 1st November. Off means not in the swim. Thanks in advance for your co-operation.

River bank closures

From now until further notice two sections of high bank are closed

This decision has been not taken lightly but the welfare of the fish especially the barbel has to be the main concern.

The problem is that after catching a fish it is not possible to get back to the low water level to hold the fish heads up to recover, using a landing net does not control how a fish is lying in the current and when it is strong enough to be released

The sections are :-

From the bailey bridge upstream to the LAA stretch, on the field side (west bank)

and

From the bailey bridge down to the wooden fencing, on the pedestrian path side (west bank )

Just to clarify both of these are on the opposite side to our roadway if in doubt please use the phone number on the front of your card

Keep an eye both on the bank for notices and on this site for info as to when this unfortunate but necessary closure is removed

When fishing areas with gravel bed in front of you please be careful of bringing a fighting fish over water less than around 10" as immense damage can occur to their slim and scales allowing infection in the future, we have in the past needed to close some of these section due to low water.

Lets all pray for rain

River walk report

Tour of the  river 9th June report

On Saturday the 9th Eric Whorne our Head bailiff and Senior bailiff Daren Poole took time out to conduct a tour of the river sharing their combined 90 years of knowledge about the river

We anticipated a few more than last years  but we were so encouraged by around 45 members showing up

Eric and Daren  identified many fish holding areas along with how to attract the inhabitants mainly barbel and chub although dace were talked about, this included what baits to use and end tackle to use at differing times of the day, water levels and light levels.

Enthusiasm shown by the  members with their questions was very encouraging for Eric and Daren proving their time was not wasted.

Thanks from members on the day and via e mail after was very encouraging for the two guys

At this point I think it is important to highlight the fact that all our small band of volunteer bailiffs give up their time when they could be fishing to police the fishery throughout the year  for the benefit of the membership.

A big thank you to the two from the Committee of the Consortium

If enough interest comes in via the e mail we will try and encourage the guys to do another tour late autumn early winter to get a different view and approach to fishing the river with it's winter coat on.

Please let me know and e mail via the address below that although I retired ill as Secretary I still monitor

WOW

We anticipated a few more than last years  but we were so encouraged by around 45 members showing up

Lead by Eric our Head Bailiff and Senior bailiff Daren  many fish holding areas were highlighted along with how to snare the inhabitants.

Car parking update

Our two car parks after our combination locked gate will remain free to our members

We are still waiting to hear just how the system will work.

At present it is proposed that anglers can either pay £2.50 a day  or get a season ticket at £20 to use the car park at the bottom of Fishers green lane or the public car park at Stubbins hall lane.

The Consortium is still not satisfied with this and the Secretary is fighting for a better deal.

As we know more we will let you know, watch this space ! !

Our two car parks after our combination locked gate will remain free to our members

22nd March 2018

Car parking at The Green

Looks like there will be a reduced charge for anglers using the car park. £20 per annum is the suggestion at present.

Blue badge free parking

This will apply to Fishers green lane park and Stubbins public car park

These were the suggestions put forward and it seems will be in implemented around April time and reviewed after 6 months

18th March 2018

Car parking at The Green

A few members have requested clarification on the parking at the Green

At the Stubbins hall lane entrance

As you enter the camera reads your number plate

If you then go into the public park and stay you have one hour before you are charged.

If you proceed through the public park over the road bridge and through our combination locked gate a second camera reads your plate and you will not get charged.

At the Fishers green lane entrance

Unfortunately at present there is no concession to members on parking

As you enter the car park your number plate will be read and you have only one ( 1 ) hour free parking

Note

The cameras read in and out and tickets for charges are generated automatically

This means you will not get one hour ''static parking'' but one hour between triggering the camera in and out.

Updates to this will appear on this page as they are announced.

River close season

A quick heads up to save confusion the river close season imposed by law and enforced by the Environment Agency started at midnight last night.

Remember the close season is 15th to 15th inclusive.

The river will be patrolled by our bailiffs and there will be visits by the E A bailiffs.

The fines imposed in a court of law are getting bigger every year and a criminal record follows.

Please don't chance it, fish the pits and lakes that are open.

Parking at The Green

As some of you know parking has been a topic on the horizon but we were not informed it would be just yet and details were not available to the FGC.

The Secretary Doug Howell has been in touch with the Fisheries Dept our immediate point of contact, below is a copy of the reply to his many e mails, phone calls and visits.

Please feel free to lodge your complaints/feelings but keep them short, to the point and in good clean English

The Fisheries team are on our side as it affects them as much as it affects the Consortium

Hi Folks,

As I’ve spoken to many of you over the last few days and promised some facts this is officially all I have been informed at this point in time.

Fishers Green

  1.       Cameras: 1st Camera logs vehicle moment in of all,  2nd Camera logs movement of Anglers vehicles: FGC members, N.Met Pit Members. Plus Environment Agency Staff, HMWT, Wildlife rescue, Parks Patrol, Contractors, and all visitors to the National Grid. 3rd Camera logs all movement of visitors to F/Green Sailing Club, therefore any vehicles not appearing on cameras 2 & 3 will be charged as they will be logged as using the main car park.
  2.       I am told we shall explore the secondary/inner car park option inside the anglers gate, however I am certain this will need a planning application to both EFDC and Natural England, therefore will take a time to process.
  3.       Unfortunately all vehicles going into the main Fishers Green Car Park (see 1) will be charged after one hour commencing 9th March 2018
  4.      This applies anytime during any 24 hour period.

Hooks Marsh

  1.     I am currently in contact with the Corporation of London regarding the use of the Police Pit Car Park at the bottom right of Fishers Green Lane.
  2.     I am told there may be the option to explore the possibility of using a section of Chapmans Field on Left hand side going down Fishers Green Lane however this as in 2) will require planning permission. Unfortunately I start from this point in time in regard to submission of the relevant planning applications which shall require both assistance and cooperation from others within the Authority.

Finally if any persons approach you regarding information or how to make submission of a complaint, this is where these should be directed: crm@vibrantpartnerships.co.uk Tel: 03000 030610

Remember it is your responsibility to book in with the The Fishery Manager if your club charges extra for not attending a work party and you want your name passed on to your secretary  giving your name, club and club number

As always we do need members to muck in and give a hand, this may be litter picking through to cutting up timbers

The Fishery Manager will have a list of jobs to do to suit members of all abilities

Tools will be available but bring any tools you have that you think may be of use

Please don't attend if all you want to do is stand around and talk distracting working guys.

Bridge closure

Unfortunately on a safety inspection taken throughout the Park, rust was found on the foot bridge by the picnic area

We think that experts will be used to further examine the bridge but in the meantime the the Parks have closed the bridge

This means that to access the west bank of the river or Seventy acre you have to either :-

        - use Fishers green lane car park cross the bridge and walk up river or the lower banks of Seventy acre

        - go to our middle car park ( by the power station ) cross the bridge and take a long walk

down the west bank of the river or walk down to the top half of Seventy acre.

Unfortunately we can not do anything about this only hope that on expert inspection the rust is not a problem

When we know more we will let you know

Walk The River Saturday 10th June

The river walkabout proved a great success with some thirty anglers from a number of the consortium clubs enjoying the morning sun.

The river looked good, a nice summer level, clear and running well with one or two of its bigger inhabitants putting on a show.

Swims were highlighted, advice on how best to fish the river in its various guises and suggested rigs, bait and feeding were all outlined and discussed.

The very positive feedback from those who attended was good to hear and everybody went away infused, impatiently looking forward to next Friday 16th.

The bailiff team are not there just to check tickets, many successfully fish the river throughout the season and will be pleased to offer advice and tips.

There are personal bests for most of us in the river; last season saw Barbel to 16lb 2oz, Chub to 8lb 4oz, Perch to 3lbs 15oz and Dace to 12oz plus good Pike, Tench, Roach and Bream showing.

There are bigger yet still to be caught!

Have a memorable season; hope to see you on the bank soon.

17th December

The river comes alive

Most of the regulars know well how the fish have been showing but as I have had a few phone calls on the river sport I took the time to do a tour round this week

Starting five weeks ago the river has started to fish much better.

Bailiff report sheets have shown a steady rise in catches and we have not yet had the ideal winter coloured water run

The first was the barbel of 16lb1oz caught by Lawrence Mason during daylight early November pictured in the Anglers Mail.

In the same issue was a picture of our Denis Poole with a fine brace of Lea Perch of 3lb 6oz and 3lb 2oz

I went round last Tuesday morning and Chris did the after dark rota, the fish logged were

Barbel 5lb 10ozs  -  9lb  -  11lb 7ozs. and Chub of 2lb,  -  2lb 8ozs,  -  4lb,  -  6lb 8ozs

On Tuesday evening after Chris left  Simon Fayer banked a magnificent Chub at 7lb 4ozs ( pictured above click to enlarge ) Thanks to Dean Macey stopping his fishing to take the picture.

To add to these catches Paul White did a session of dead baiting on the river and banked 4 pike to 10lbs

These are just the catches owned up to plenty more go unannounced

River catch update

Report from one of our bailiffs Paul White

Whilst the river is very low the fish are still there to be caught

This week a 6lb 2oz chub and a 15lb 12oz barbel have been caught .

River catches

Only 6 days into the season and even with the unfriendly weather playing havoc with the water levels and temperature a few fish have been reported, and as usual many anglers refusing to come clean on their catches.

A 12 -2 barbel seems to top the list so far plus a good selection of silvers to guys fishing light or trotting

As more bait goes in the fish will start to respond

River Lea Barbel

King’s Weir Barbel record falls at 16lb 2oz

Jerry Brown with his King’s Weir Barbel at 16lb 2oz.

The King’s Weir Fishery on the River Lea has produced its biggest-ever Barbel…in the shape of this 16lb 2oz specimen.

Taken by Essex angler Jerry Brown, it fell to a flavoured meat hook bait and came just as he was about to pack up after an evening session.

He presented his bait close to overhanging trees and had to wait three hours before he got the all-important take, with the fish being beaten with an 8 hook to 8lb line.

As I'm sure you all know the Kings weir water leads down to the top of our stretch and they have fins that they use looking for their next meal.

Partial River Closure

A reminder that until further notice due to the low water levels in the river we are forced to close the section of river from the top car park to swim 12 (The Pylon).

This is to stop any fish caught being played back in very shallow water across the area of gravel between the middle to near bank.

Watch this site and notices around the fishery for any further closures and lifting of any closures.

Message from the Fishery Manager LVRPA

Hi Folks,

There is an elderly lady in her ‘80’s wandering around quite possibly within the park who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

She may have entered the park via a Cheshunt entrance but could be anywhere?

The Police amongst others are trying to locate her and she is wearing a long brown overcoat and very baggy (over –sized) black trousers.

If you see or hear of someone matching this description please bell the Police or Parks Patrol.

Regards

Gary Smith - Fisheries & Angling Manager

Fallen Tree

The tree is no more.

Thanks to Lenny the bailiff and two Hollow members Steve Palmer and Toby Cole the tree was cut and cleared the trunk has been left to make a seat.

The overhead branches stopping long casting have also been attended to.

Thanks to all three of you.

Fallen tree

A tree has fallen on Langridge blocking off one swim. It needs a bit of man power to pull it out of the way.

If you can give us a hand give Lenny a call to arrange a time etc. on 07904 895 673.

If you don't know the lake and would like to find out about it Lenny, one of our bailiffs, has fished the lake for over 40 years, being a bailiff for many of those, and knows where and how to fish it so you can combine helping out with learning about the water.

Probable date will be Sunday 6th September (Sunday week).

River Survey

Sorry about the short notice but only just been told.

The EA will be conducting their annual survey of the river tomorrow 14th July.

They normally use the shallows below the top car park, that should not interfere with any anglers.

If you are interested in watching [you can not help in any way nor offer advice] they are usually there from around 9am till noon.

Anyone taking photos please e mail them to me for the web along with any details of fish as their report takes for ever to come back to us.

10th July 2015

River Report

I will be keeping the site up to date so please send in to secretary@fishersgreencon.co.uk  pictures, stories, your catches in fact anything of interest

I hope to take a trip over to have a look around and see if anything needs urgent attention, if you know of anything email me.

Barbeques in Lee Valley Park

This a reminder as some members are still not reading the rules,  no open fires or Barbeques this is a LVRPA rule.

We had a report that someone on Railway had one going on Saturday, you have been warned it's up to you now.

Patrols

BE WARNED THE PARKS PATROL ARE GOING TO LOOK IN EVERY WEEKEND AT VARIOUS PITS IN THE VALLEY DURING THE SUMMER.

They have full bailiff powers so co-operate with them if they ask to check permits.

Our own bailiffing team are working on a random agenda over the weekends which means you may be asked for your ticket once, twice or even more times.

This may seem a bit of a bother to some but it is for all your benefit in safety and the welfare of our valuable fish stocks.

Catches

From Seventy Acres a Tench of 9lb 2oz plus three eels of about 2.5 lbs each reported on 16th May.

Also from 70 acres a common Carp of 42lb.

Also unconfirmed reports of a large Carp from Langridge.

New season

Not long now to wait for the 16th June, make sure you have your EA licence and have your 2015/16 Hollows ticket with you when on the bank bailiffs will check and you will be told to leave if you can not show the Fishers Green card.

We still have one more work party this year this will be at

Fishers green on the 14th June getting everything ready for the opening of the season.

16th May 2015

Work Party

Tomorrow is the Fishers Green work party 17th May.

Apologises for keep reminding you but it is important that we get work done.

Come and enjoy yourselves Cutting, Pulling, Sawing and feeling good about it.

You will enjoy yourselves because I have told you so, come and prove me right

12th May 2015

Work Party

A big thank you goes to the Jamie Godson and his three assistants from the LVRPA Fisheries team for the good work today.

With the usual six members aiding and abetting the team we cleared masses of debris and new growth from the trees below the Bailey Bridge.

You will now be able to trot down the far shelf by the edge of the weed bed that with extra light getting through should grow enough to overcome the attack by the Canada geese.

It was a midweek party but there was still a rather poor response after all the comments I get of ''Can't do weekends as I work'' comments. Hollows were the majority of members with six, Verulum having just one. No other clubs putting in an appearance, maybe we should start a clubs name and shame to go alongside the Bans page.

I am hoping to get another midweek work party with the fisheries team before the season starts, watch this page and given time I will also get an Email out to all club secretaries to hopefully inform their members

The fisheries team were busy last week replacing the steps and repairing the platform,  we now have three sets of steps and platforms between the foot bridge and the road bridge.

The plan is to replace the remaining one giving us four good swims.

These swims were very popular and good producers up until a couple of years ago when they became too dangerous  to use.

The next work party here if you have missed my last few reminders is this Sunday 17th May.

3rd May 2015

Work Party

The next Sunday work party at Fishers Green is the 17th May.

Also a reminder about the midweek work party on Tuesday 12th May.

29th April 2015

Work Party

The Chaps of the Fisheries department have offered to do some work on the river for us using their boat to get at 'debris' we can not reach.

This will take place on Tuesday 12th May.

We need all the man power we can get to pull on ropes to remove timber as they cut.

Start at 8.30am, meet in the middle car park as usual.

Gloves, boots and as usual that extra Weatabix for breakfast.

28th April 2015

Work Party

The next Sunday work party is set for 17th May.

With the growing season seemingly here a lot of the work will be in cutting down the nettles and briars springing up around the entrances to our swims.

We are hoping to get a midweek party on the river shortly keep an eye on this page and hopefully I will get an Email out but it will be very short notice.

Platforms

The fisheries department of the LVRPA have been hard at work and we have a second new set of steps and platform on the relief channel below the road bridge. This gives us eight good swims below the road bridge in the Stubbins hall lane car park.

Rules

Go to the Head Bailiff page for a very important entry.

19th April 2015

Work Party

Really good work party today.

A big thank you to all those that put the effort in it has really made a difference.

The 5 swims below the footbridge have been well cleared and should be ok now for the whole of the season.

The flow on the bend below the top car park has been greatly improved by the removal of a mountain of rubbish built up over the last two years, there is more to do here on the next party.

The swims on Langridge by the grebe hide have been opened out with just a little more to do on the left one on the branches overhead or  a casting platform built if the branches can not be removed.

A second swim on swim 12 has been made like the existing one on the left high up to allow it to be fished when a bit of flood water is coming down. Ideal when two mates want to fish and chat.

An extra board on each of swims 5 and 9 has made then easier to use.

The next work party here is Sunday 17th May.

By this time the nettles etc. will be high so apart from swim work we will need bodies with scythes etc. to cut path open to swims.

Monday 29th

The Fisheries department of the LVRPA have agreed to build new steps on the swim below the road bridge on Monday 29th.

The middle swim will be removed as we do not need three swims too close on that stretch.

That will give us good safe access to the swims on the west bank.

All Gates

All the locks on gates on all venues must be locked behind you on entering and locked behind you when you leave.

Anyone found leaving a gate open will be up for a ban.

Fish Thefts

Over the Bank Holiday weekend three anglers of Eastern European appearance were caught stealing fish from the Grand Union Canal at Slapton. The fish were stuffed in a bucket with Bream estimated at 4lb amongst them. This group were seen twice over the Bank Holiday weekend and despite the EA being called as far as we are aware they did not attend. We have a photo of the Transit van this group used so keep your eyes out for it as they could target any fishery. Do report it immediately (Not the next day please) to the fishery owner or club concerned (We can always be messaged on Facebook). Finally please share so that as many anglers, clubs and fishery owners see this as possible. Sadly this seems to be happening on a regular basis with not just Eastern Europeans stealing fish but English anglers also taking carp to illegally stock other waters. Thank you for your support its appreciated.

Trees

To all of those that said it would not happen ''WRONG'', the tree in swim 9 (Suicide) has gone along with the tree over the platform below the road bridge. Contractors were there today. Big thank you to the Parks Fishery team for arranging it. It is like our birthdays have all come at once, just need our Christmas's to come and we will have nothing to moan about. Thanks again Gary and Jamie.

Work Party 15th

Still plenty for us to play around with see entry 8th March below.

Catches

This week has seen lots of Barbel and Chub grace the banks, toping out seem to be 15.4lb Barbel and 7.12lb Chub. In general it is true to say the river has ''fished it's nuts off'' admittedly this has looked good because the river was at a nice level and there were many anglers getting the last couple of weeks out before the 15th. Nine on our rounds just this morning.

Season End 15th

Don't forget it is all over river and relief at 8pm this Saturday 14th.

8th March 2015

Work Party 15th

This coming Sunday sees our first work party at the Green.

Meet up 8am in the bailey bridge car park.

Bring any tools you have plus good foot wear, gloves etc.

All new members are most welcome and with some of the old hands there will be plenty of useful info available about the venue.

Any queries give me a bell on 07989 817 316  or 020 8505 3215.

Close Season 15th March

This Saturday sees the last day on the River the Channel and Cornmill stream.

All off at 8pm Saturday 14th March.

11th February 2015

Footpath Repair

The path going north from the footbridge past the bittern hide is at last being repaired, during this time machinery will be in use and health and safety requires the closure of the path. I am sure that if you need to fish above this area of work a request to allow you pass will be met favourably but be aware that this is not a must allow. You will not be allowed to fish the river or pit within the boundary of the work. Notices are displayed at either end of the work.

For Sale

See the Sales page for few items of carp gear for sale.

Swims

Thanks to Jamie from the Parks, today with his band of volunteers he replaced the steps down to the bottom swim on the west bank below the road bride. The tree across the first swim was too big for them to move. When he gets more timber he will sort the middle swim, but the new steps are very good and the platform large and allows casting up to the bridge and down to the conference of the river.

He is very busy at present so the Wednesday work parties may not happen until March.

Not many anglers on the banks, 7 this morning on river and relief and only one Barbel owned up to.

21st January 2015

Piking

A reminder to all the Pike anglers, rule 24 states that 'All live bait must be caught on the pit or river being fished'

This is Environment Agency law and as such any one found breaking this rule is liable to prosecution by the E.A.

Any body interested in finding out more about the Bittern and maybe seeing one there is a meeting led by park rangers and with the R.S.P.B this Sunday 18th January

Meet at around 4 to 4.30pm at the bittern hide [that is from the public car park over the footbridge turn right and the hide is a few yards up.]

Poaching

Over the last few days bailiffs have found people fishing on the Green without memberships.

We ask all anglers to keep an eye out for anglers that don't 'look right'. This is usually things like no unhooking mat or landing net, lack of tackle in general, empty plastic buckets, barbeque equipment.

Talk to them to find out more and if appropriate without any form of danger to yourselves tell them to leave the water. Try and make a note of their description and any vehicle involved. If this is not possible and you are sure that they are non members out of their sight call the parks police on 07974 696 931.

We have also found long lines set in various areas especially on Langridge. If you notice sticks or branches in the waters edge or just on the bank in undergrowth, investigate pulling them up to see if there is line attached. Any line and hooks found should be pulled in, rolled up and removed from the fishery, and then reported to either of the numbers on your Fishers Green card.

It is up to us all to be vigilant to protect our fishery.

12th September 2014

The tree between swim 2 and 3 has been removed.

One angler had two Barbel lower down river during the morning while I was there.

One angler plugging, roving on Langridge found 5 Pike up to 6-7lbs before 1pm, and was still going.

We have a serious tree problem on the opposite bank on the first bend up from the Bailey Bridge, hopefully as soon as the leaves drop and we can see 'the wood from the trees' I will be asking for help on a work party, please watch this space.

6th September 2014

On Wednesday next 10th Sept the Bat group will be doing a survey.

They will be using three areas on Langridge chosen on the night from just above the weir to the hide.

They will start before an hour before sunset and finish well after our hours at around 2am.

They may make a bit of noise but have promised not to interfere with anglers.

28th August 2014

We have travellers in the area, so please make sure you lock the gate in and out. Don’t let anybody in unless you know them or they show you a membership ticket.

We had a problem with damaged combination locks causing the parks to secure the main gate with their lock excluding ours. When going in and intending to stay after park closing time just check that the combination lock is there and connected to the chain ready for lock up at night, if not I’m afraid it is an early bath.

River walk Saturday 9th June

Getting ready for the new season on the river we have again arranged  a ''Walk The River'' with some of the long standing well informed bailiffs.

This guided tour is aimed at all members old and new, guests and anglers thinking of joining one of the clubs in the Consortium.

Our Head Bailiff Eric Whorne and Fishery Manager Paul White will again be in attendance along with some of our Bailiffs

These guys have known and fished the river for many years and are very willing to pass on their knowledge of where and how to find the fish.

On show will be the area of gravel pressure washed by the EA in April this year where barbel where seen only a couple of days later looking for spawning areas

Last year following the walkabout at the same time of the year several members not only found more fish but also reported that they had increased their PB

If you would like to find out how and where to fish the river.

Put the date in your diary.

Meet up in the middle car park at 9am

Polaroid glasses are a good bet

Plenty of swims to be strimmed back and some high growth cleared.

The very recent rains and wind have closed down a few swims.

All the help you can give will be welcome.

I am sure Paul will be looking for names on Saturday, please help him and book in with him when you arrive on Sunday.

16.2oz barbel reported early this week

19th December

Correction to 17th Dec

I got it wrong the pike caught by Paul should have read 3 doubles to 14lbs and one of 8lb 8ozs

Even better

Who says the river is empty

3rd November

Relief channel closure

On the 20th November there will be one of the six annual agreed ''paddles '' down the relief channel

The canoes will row down Langridge from above Kings weir landing just above the weir and carrying their canoes along the bank to our Swim one where they will launch them and paddle down the relief

This means the swim will be closed from around 10am for possibly a couple of hours

This is an event agreed by the Consortium.

30th October

Sunday 26th event

Sorry about short notice but only just been informed ourselves

On Sunday there is a parks organised event at the Green

Marshals will be on the gates but have been instructed to allow FGC members past on showing their FGC blue card

It is anticipated that customers may try to use Fishers Green car park.

This will be monitored by event security who will ensure that only fishermen and park users are able to gain access into the car park itself.

This will be monitored from 09:30-16:00.

River times

It is one hour before sunrise till 11pm until the end of August

See your members card for details of bank area and times throughout the season

River season

It is here at last

04.42 Thursday morning

Bit of rain in the last few days should give a bit of needed colour in the river that has been very low and clear for the last few weeks

Todays work Party

Just got home from what I think will be the last work party at the Green  for this year

A big thank you to the six members 5 regulars and one first timer who work tirelessly and achieved more than I expected with the poor turn out

It is very sole destroying when you are working hard and there were 9 members some fishing and some walking up and down just looking at the fishery to see where they will hope to fish come the 16th

Again a big thank you to all  the guys that since March have taking part in the work parties we have had

4th June  2016

Tomorrow Work Party Sunday 5th June

Lets try and have a good turn out to get the river ready for the ''glorious 16th'' not long now

Work Party Sunday 5th June

I am afraid that you will need a sun hat and possibly cream on Sunday as this overcast rainy weather is going on Saturday afternoon.

                       Sorry about that.
So see you there with your protection.
Oh and by the way bring any tools that may be useful

2nd June  2016

Work Party Sunday 5th June

This Sunday sees the last work party before we get underway with the new river season

Meet at 8.30 middle car park or top if we have started

The aim will be to open up swims that were clear a month ago but the recent weather has caused rapid growth of nettles etc. So any tools that you think may help will be welcome , scythes slashers etc

We also have some steps to repair the timber is all onsite and cut to size

8th May  2016

Work Party today 8th May

Just like to give a big thank you to Eric Whorne, Lenny Collins, Toby Cole the three stalwarts of our work parties

plus Richard Cromwell and Keith Edwards.

Yes that was it just five plus myself albeit not able to do much.

Over the last three work parties we have brought back into use ten swims on the river and six on the pits had we had more help this figure could have been more than doubled.

We have one more fixed party on the 5th June just prior to the river season when we will just be strimming the new growth on the paths to each swim.

Hopefully we will get a Wednesday party in before the river season when we attack more of the growth in and over the water

Please try and get to one of these parties.

Watch this site for notification of any Wednesday parties which are often quite short notice

7th May  2016

Work Party tomorrow 8th May

Just got back from collecting timber for tomorrows work party

Railway sleepers ( untreated ) cut to size to repair some steps and 3 x 2 metre plus lengths to repair swims

All in all a good morning

All we now need tomorrow are the hands to help.

There are still some snags to sort out on the river.

The more turn up the quicker we get done and home

4th May  2016

Work Party this Sunday 8th May

Another chance to do a bit to help

We really need all the help we can get

Meet up middle car park 8.30

As usual I have arranged the weather ! ! !

Bit of tree pruning bit of swim repair all good fun

Please try and help

30th April 2016

Poaching

I have just had a report of dead lines (5) being found on Hooks marsh

One had trapped a 3lbs eel.

The lines were all destroyed after pictures taken.

Can all anglers be aware when walking around the fishery to keep an eye out for the tell tale signs.

These are often vegetation trodden down to the waters edge.

Sticks in the ground for no apparent reason , these are either by the edge of the path to mark the whereabouts

of the line from the path or in the water holding the lines and often submerged

Please take pictures and report any signs so that whole area can be checked out.

Phone numbers on your card

Yesterdays' Work Party  at the Green

Despite the good weather that I booked with him upstairs a rather poor response from members.

However with the Parks team cutting from the boat and the merry 5 members on the ropes we got rid of two trees

in swim 6 and removed the giant tree at the bottom of the 'dustbin' swim

The giant tree had been there for several years stretching from the bank across under water to the middle of the river

and had then rooted in the middle middle of the river causing the flow to push onto the west bank resulting in erosion

so that was a very good job done. ( Michael's toys will not be beaten )  )

The flow leaving the bend in the river now goes down the middle stream taking the pressure off the far bank where

around twelve foot of bank had erode with undercutting and consequential collapse.

A nice area of hollows and gravel is showing where the roots came out, a few floods and it will be ready for barbel to spawn

We are hoping to fit in another Wednesday party with the Parks before the start of the river season but we desperately

need a better turnout from all those that wanted midweek parties as they are otherwise engaged at the weekend.

Next scheduled work party at Fishers Green is 8th May Sunday

Do try and help out it is good fun (trust me ) and there is a lot to learn about the water on these days

The Parks are going to repair the low level platform at the top car park for us as it is beginning to move.

If it is not finished before the start of the season take care when on it

Any suggestions for work needed contact me by e-mail or phone

Car park notices

The new notices stating that there is a £500 fine for calling the parks out after hours if locked in the car park DOES NOT apply to Fishers Green Consortium members.

We have our own combination locks on all car parks with the combination printed on your ticket allowing access 24/7.

Should the combination lock be ineffective due to the Parks key lock covering it you will have to phone the parks who will release you without charge.

Please notify me if there is the occasion to call them out after hours so we can keep a log of any problems

Work Parties

Saturday 23rd

The next one Saturday 23rd April is especially arranged for Verulam members

Make sure you book in with Paul White to save getting your £40 work party fine

Please have your Verulam membership number with you

Wednesday 27th

The next midweek party is Wednesday 27th ( Wednesday week )

On this one the Parks Fisheries team do all the hard work in the boat trimming trees causing problems that we can not reach ,

we have the easy bit of pulling them ashore and cutting them up.

The last one of these was very productive and enjoyed by all ( see 13th April entry below ) Keep going follow the trail ! ! !-  Mike

Verulam members have to attend a party before the end of April to save their fine so these two are the last chance this year.

On both of these parties meet middle car park 8.30am

13th April 2016

Today's Work party Fishers Green

A good turn out from members making the work much easier.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the time (4hrs) with a few laughs and a bit of banter plus a learning curve by most of us

from the bailiffs on the party who had knowledge of the river over 50 years.

On behalf of the Consortium I would like to give a big vote of thanks to the Fisheries team that turned out today

and from the boat cleared 7 swims on the section above the footbridge, swims that had been unfishable

for two or three years and were noted barbel holding areas.

Thanks Jamie Godson, Colin Short, Dave Fosett and Kevin Nimmo

They have agreed to another session which all being well will be Wednesday 27th April a fortnights time.

Make a note in your diary.

THERE Rainbows end  ! ! ! POT OF GOLD

Work party

A big thank you to the guys that turned out for the two work partys Saturday and Sunday

A lot of heavy work was completed on the river and Langridge along with a big litter pick around the complex (mostly not angler related )

Everyone enjoyed themselves a few good laughs on the way and I even had to call time several times on Sunday to get the guys to pack up.

As you can guess still plenty to do so we still want help on the next one Sunday April 10th

Thanks again to those that worked rather than fished in order to improve the fishery for all

Message for the guy that lost a rake - we found it today by the top car park - I have it ready for next time or ring me if you want it earlier

Our gate

I've had a couple of reports about the gate lock being a problem.

If you were out in all the cold and rain we have had you might be a bit stiff lol.

A quick squirt of the famous WD40 and the problem was solved.

When closing the lock make sure it is locked, if it is stiff it may not lock properly and spring open

If you have WD40 give it a quickie or you could pull your dip stick out and use the drips on the end to service the lock ! ! ! !

Our gate

On a couple of occasions recently the gate to our car parks has been left open

Park rangers have been quick to photograph it and  publish it to all concerned

This does not do the Consortium any favours

Think if you leave the gate open when entering it is the safety of you and your motor that your are compromising.

If it is left open on leaving you may pass a member on the road in and be reported for leaving it open.

We will trace any car number related to any report and a ban will be imposed with no excuses being accepted

15th October 2015

Regards

The tree is no more.

Thanks to Lenny the bailiff and two Hollow members Steve Palmer and Toby Cole the tree was cut and cleared the trunk has been left to make a seat.

The overhead branches stopping long casting have also been attended to.

Thanks to all three of you.

With the river running low and clear most of the regulars turn up after work and fish as the light starts to go.

Barbel of 13lbs 5ozs reported along with a chub of 5lbs 5ozs by one angler.

Dace up to 10oz have been showing below the bailey bridge.

I have had my radiotherapy and am out and home, apart from weekly visits over the next 45 weeks  for chemotherapy  I hope to stay out this time. Still can not do much in the way of work and more important have not enough energy to even fish.

25th May 2015

Work Party 19th April

That's this Sunday.

After being castigated for booking the first work party on Mother’s day I went and booked two different venues on the same day for our second one.

So for the third work party I have specially arranged a day of sunshine, to say sorry ! ! ! Believe it. ! ! !

Season starts Tuesday June 16th at 3.45am (One hour before sunrise).
