General Rule Reminders.

All anglers must have the following with them on the bank otherwise they will be asked to leave the venue

1.  A valid, original Fishers Green Consortium Permit (photocopies not acceptable) in addition to their club card.

2. A suitably sixed landing net. Regardless of fish species targeted this should be a minimum of 26 inch and 40 inch for Pike and Carp

3. An unhooking mat.

All anglers must be within reach of their rods at all times. If you are leaving the swim for any reason the rods must be reeled in with line and hooks on the bank with bait removed. A breach of this rule will result in an immediate ban. 

No fishing from any of the bridges.

Please familiarise yourself with the full list of venue rules that are printed on your permit card.

Work party 25th

The work party scheduled for Sunday 25th March has been cancelled due to the Runfest event put on by the parks

The runners go over the concrete road bridge up the side of the relief channel to the weir coming out at the top car park and down to the bailey bridge.

Both car parks will be used as water stations making it impossible for us with safety in mind

The SATURDAY 24th work party is not affected and will go ahead

Meet 8.30am in the middle car park

Gravel cleaning

Together with the E A  on the 25th and 26th April we will be jet washing the gravel below the dustbin bend.

Anyone wanting to lend a hand will be welcome. Thigh or chest waders will be required.

Temporary river closure

Due to the exceptional low water level we have closed the short section

road side bank from the bailey bridge upstream to the first bend

This is a temporary measure to protect any fish caught being pulled over gravel.

Notification will be given on this page as soon as it is opened

River '' OFF '' times

The river closure  is now 8pm till the end of the season

The Channel is 24 hour no closure

24th October

River '' OFF '' times

Currently 10pm but the  end of this month it changes to 8pm for the rest of the season

Because we have a few members that are uncertain about the meaning of OFF below is the entry of the 20th August

This means off the river not just ''I am just packing up '' when the bailiff catches you

YOUR SWIM MUST BE CLEAR OF TACKLE BY THE CURRENT ''OFF'' TIME

Anyone found packing up on the bank with rods still in water will be reported to the committee

Due to so many recent excuses and arguments over the rules all bailiffs have been told not to allow any excuses

Before we formed the Fishers Green Consortium the river off times were one hour after sunset.

After the first lease and after hard negotiations with the parks the new times were agreed as we were considered good tenants abiding to the rules all of which were initially agreed with the parks.

As the winter approaches all the river anglers realise that the extended Autumn and Winter times give up to four hours of night fishing.

For this reason we are being strict

The Channel is 24 hr

Barbel Handling

                  Please consider the swim you fish and how you can handle a big barbel. Importantly can you safely land, REST and return the fish.

                  For instance in the low water conditions we have experienced lately some of the really high banks make it nearly impossible

to properly rest a fish and release even with a 3m plus landing net pole.

                  Leave those swims until we have some high water. 

                  A large dead barbel 12 -13lb was found yesterday, otherwise perfectly healthy and in good condition

which was probably killed due to bad handling.

                  In all water conditions the barbel will need many minutes to recover, probably at least 10 to 15 minutes

and in low, warmer, less oxygenated conditions perhaps a lot longer.

                  Let the fish rest after the fight before lifting from the water to unhook etc and never release a fish until

you are happy that it is fully recovered and ready to powerfully swim away.

                   Our fish are precious and help to make the Green the special place it is, please look after them.

Head bailiff report

               The summer river is looking interesting fairly low and clear at the moment, but the recent rain has added a few inches.    

               Good ranunculus and bull rush growth offers some challenging but fish holding opportunities.

               Try free lining a lob in amongst the fronds. Plenty of Roach, dace and chub have been taken by the float anglers

with a good number of barbell to 13.10 and chub to 7.4 so far reported.

               Hope to see you on the bank."

Problem rules

While all the rules are important for the well being of the fish and the environment we continually come across some rules being broken, these are

On the front of your card :-

You must carry your FG card and club photo card when fishing.

 ''Sorry I left it at home and will bring it in future'' will not be accepted

All bailiffs are instructed to stop you fishing and send you home

Rule 13:-

You must have a suitable size landing net ready assembled for use

''It's in the bag or in my mates swim'' will not do

Again you will be asked to assemble it or get one in your swim before being allowed to fish on

Rule 14:-

A suitable purchased unhooking mat must be open in your swim ready for use.

A piece of plastic or cloth will not be acceptable.

Rule 31:-

Offensive or threatening behaviour to any one will not be tolerated

All bailiffs do the job for their love of the fishery not for reward or ego and have the full support of the Consortium and the Lea Valley Regional Parks Authority

As with the violation of any rule the bailiff will either mark the front of your card so future bailiffs are aware of a warning or retain your card

In both cases the committee will be informed and further action may be taken

Bailiffs are not being 'picky' or 'over zealous' they are doing their job and have strict instructions not to allow exceptions to any rule

As stated before if you do not understand any rule use the phone numbers on your card to clarify the position and do it before not after you are stopped breaking the rules.

This spring we are hoping to get  a few bailiffs together for a 'Learn your river' walk about

This will be an informal tour of the river in groups lead by a bailiff with many years experience of the river and it inhabitants

We have unfortunately had to issue bans ranging from 3 months to  1 season.

River review

 With the end of the River Season approaching Mike Smith is preparing a schedule of work to do with

or without the Parks.

                  Where it involves being in the water it will have to be left to the Parks with us assisting on the Bank.

                  I am preparing a submission to the Environment Agency and the Parks regarding the erosion of the bank directly

opposite the ’Dustbin’.

( that is the bend down river from the top car park with several trees in the water and an island of silt)

                  I have been told that the land between the River and Canal was an unlicensed Landfill Site in the 1960’s and

                  I am concerned as to what is under the soil and the damage it could do or is doing to the Fishery.

                  Any information or photographs would be appreciated.

                  This subject was raised by the late Fred Crouch some years ago and I have not been able to find any more information.

February fish reports

 Since the start of the month bailiffs have been reporting more fish banked. it seems more members are owning up to their catches

                  The fish are coming from most sections of the river and lower channel swims. More anglers have been venturing to new areas

                  It shows that the fishing is picking up as more anglers are venturing out in some of the really strong cold winds that we have had since

the start of the month.

                  CHUB of 5lbs -  6.04lbs - 7.00lbs - 5.08lbs - 7.11lbs - 5.02lbs amongst some of those reported

                  BARBEL of 15.02lbs - 8.10lbs - 11.02lbs - 10.06lbs - 15.02lbs - 8.08lbs - 6.12lbs  with the unconfirmed fish of 16+lbs

                  Several small un-weighed Barbel around 2/3 lbs have graced the bank either grown on from previous years stockings or home grown fish.

                  There have also been sighting and catches of some of this years Chub and Barbel stocked early December

                  There have been good catches of Roach and Dace with some fine Perch up to 3lbs

                  Please keep us informed of your catches the more anglers we get on the bank the more food goes in to keep our stretch

a food larder attracting and keeping fish there.

New Bailiff

I'd like to welcome a new bailiff joining the fold this week.

Darren Poole bailiff No 30 joins this weekend and will be out and about

Stocking The River 7th Dec 2015

On the 7th December a stocking took place at Fishers Green and it was better than expected.

700 Chub and 200 Barbel.

The fish were around 18 months old and 6" to 9" in length.

A really good looking lot of fish.

Catches

The end of last month and the first half of this month has seen some good fish grace the bank.

Barbel to the 15 lbs mark have shown up and Chub to 8lbs.

Some of the new little stocky chub around 9" have been showing up.

The very recent cold snap and the on off rains have made it a bit tricky

However the rewards for those that think about what they are doing are there

Catch Report

River getting fished more now as the weather cools and the evenings draw in many anglers staying until the 8pm end of fishing.

Since the beginning of December several Chub in the 6-7lbs class found themselves on the bank along with Barbel to 15lbs.

A report this week is of a Chub tipping the scales at 9lbs 12ozs. The angler could not find an angler to verify the scales but we know of 9lbs 3ozs fish before the British record currently stands at 9lbs 5ozs).

More anglers are taking out the float rods and trotting a stick for the Roach, fish that were shoaling near the weir now have migrated to the swims by the public car park and are giving good sport, due to their presence the pike have also arrived.

Some of the glides in the main river are producing Roach and very good dace again to the stick.

Deeper holes on the river and deep overhung swims on the relief are giving up Perch to 3lbs plus.

The pits are very under fished and as a result catches appear poor, but several Pike from jacks to mid teens have come ashore.

River Level

The rain has started to bring the river up again it was about 10" up on last week. Still not very coloured but several swims looking good after  summer of low flow.

Getting colder the weekend so probably less rain but warming back up again next week.

Catches

The river has given up a few fish since the rains. Chub have been the main feature topping out at 7lbs 3ozs reported to bailiffs.

River Level

The river has at last got some water flushing through things should start picking up now and as at settles down.

Catches

There were some good bags of roach and dace for those trotting a stick before the rise but that should improve now especially at the bottom of the relief as it gets colder.

One angler well into the silvers then proceeded to get two pike and land them.

The new steps and platforms by the public car park should come into their own for the silvers. The pike will follow.

Langridge has produced a few pike over October several good doubles.

Fallen Tree

A tree has fallen on Langridge blocking off one swim. It needs a bit of man power to pull it out of the way.

A reminder that with the traditional pike season looming, live baiting and dead baiting is NOT allowed until 1st October.

Lure fishing is the order of the day until then.

Patrols

BE WARNED THE PARKS PATROL ARE GOING TO LOOK IN EVERY WEEKEND AT VARIOUS PITS IN THE VALLEY DURING THE SUMMER.

They have full bailiff powers so co-operate with them if they ask to check permits.

Our own bailiffing team are working on a random agenda over the weekends which means you may be asked for your ticket once, twice or even more times.

This may seem a bit of a bother to some but it is for all your benefit in safety and the welfare of our valuable fish stocks.

Catches

From Seventy Acres a Tench of 9lbs 2oz plus three eels of about 2.lbs each reported on 16th May.

Also from 70 acres a common Carp of 42lbs.

Also unconfirmed reports of a large Carp from Langridge.

New season

Not long now to wait for the 16th June, make sure you have your EA licence and have your 2015/16 Hollows ticket with you when on the bank bailiffs will check and you will be told to leave if you can not show the Fishers Green card.

There will not be any excuses bans will be the result.

So far only 4 weeks into our year there have been 3 bans given out and one refusal of club membership.

Report

The Fishery is very quiet at the moment with only a few hardy Pike anglers on the Lakes.

The LVRPA have been very busy recently on the River and Relief doing a lot of tree work that Fisheries have no control over.

The swims on the river behind the Bittern Hide on the Road side have been cleared. Lost some productive swims there.

Tree work on the road bank up to the Bailey Bridge but not in the River.

No trees exist above the Holyfield Weir around he canoe portage point.

Trees have been colour marked to denote either Removal or a watching brief.

A good path now exists between Seventy Acres and the River up to the end of the Pit. Strange to stop there!

Still intend to have a bailiff’s meeting and will advise when I can find a suitable date.

No news yet about the parks Plan but may find out more on Tuesday at a Meeting that the parks are attending.

Catches

This week has seen lots of Barbel and Chub grace the banks, toping out seem to be 15.4lb Barbel and 7.12lb Chub. In general it is true to say the river has ''fished it's nuts off'' admittedly this has looked good because the river was at a nice level and there were many anglers getting the last couple of weeks out before the 15th. Nine on our rounds just this morning.

Don't forget it is all over river and relief at 8pm this Saturday 14th.

Close Season 15th March

This Saturday sees the last day on the River the Channel and Cornmill stream.

All off at 8pm Saturday 14th March.

Season starts Tuesday June 16th at 3.45am (One hour before sunrise).

Work Party 15th

This coming Sunday sees our first work party at the Green.

Meet up 8am in the bailey bridge car park.

Bring any tools you have plus good foot wear, gloves etc.

All new members are most welcome and with some of the old hands there there will be plenty of useful info available about the venue.

Piking

A reminder to all the Pike anglers, rule 24 states that "All live bait must be caught on the pit or river being fished"

This is Environment Agency law and as such any one found breaking this rule is liable to prosecution by the E.A.

That's it now folks river closes at 8pm until the end of the season on 14th March.

We will be doing checks and anyone caught after this time will have a ban.

Bailiff Checks

As promised the first of the after hours checks made last night, glad to say no problems everyone off the water by 8pm.

Two reports of 3 Chub caught to 6lbs.

We will be making more checks throughout the season easier now for our bailiffs as they can get home before midnight.

(They turn into vampires then).
